RESONANCE

——— ◆ ———

The pieces don't move on their own: they move as the stone beneath them dictates. The board is alive — it changes with every move, yours and your opponent's.

RESONANCE is an abstract strategy board game for 1 or 2 players, set in a world of paper and stone suspended over a silent pond.

Each cell holds a carved glyph that determines how any piece on it may move. When a piece leaves a cell, that cell flips and reveals a new glyph. Reading ahead how the terrain will shift is the heart of the strategy.

The goal is to capture your opponent's Heart before they capture yours — on an 8×8 grid where every move must be weighed: act now, or wait for the right stone to reveal itself?

💬 A note before you play

I'm looking to validate the core gameplay idea. Forget the graphics, the animations, and the visual polish — they're a work in progress. What I really need is your feedback on playability: does it feel fun? Does it hold up against the AI? How does it play with a friend in local mode? That's what matters most right now.

Original mechanic — movement belongs to the cell, not the piece

Each cell has two faces: the glyph changes every time someone leaves it

Two Resonance cells: a race into enemy territory to earn an extra piece

1 Player vs AI at 3 difficulty levels, or 2 Players local on the same screen

60-second turn timer — no endless games

The stones

The four glyphs

Each cell holds one of the four glyphs. It determines how any piece above it may move — regardless of whose piece it is.

Step

Step  → Snail

One cell horizontally or vertically. Careful, precise — every step counts.

Diagonal

Diagonal  → Butterfly

One cell diagonally. Controls the corners and oblique lines of the board.

Jump

Jump  → Frog

Jumps 2 cells horizontally or vertically, leaping over anyone in between.

Slide

Slide  → Serpent

Unlimited movement in a straight line until the path is blocked. Powerful, but readable.

Each cell has two faces. The glyph in the top-right corner already reveals what will appear when the piece leaves it: learning to read it in advance is where the game is decided.

The pieces

The origami

Two factions face each other: Amber, who moves first, and Indigo. Each fields 9 pieces — 1 Heart and 8 paper animals.

Amber — moves first

FrogFrog · Jump · leaps over

Pieces don't carry their movement with them: a Butterfly on a Step cell moves like a Snail. The name is just a label — the stone commands.

Special mechanic

The Resonance Cells

Two special, symmetrical cells. Yours sits in enemy territory: reach it to earn an extra piece. Or reach your opponent's to deny them the bonus. A risky race — but whoever wins it often wins the game.

Modes

Play vs AI — three levels

Easy — learn the rules without pressure

Medium — the AI plays the best immediate move

Expert — 2-turn lookahead, avoids traps

Tech

Audio-visual: folding origami animations, concentric ripple on every capture like a drop in the pond, ring timer that pulses in the last 10 seconds, ambient soundtrack on loop.

Technical: browser WebGL (Unity), no installation required. Desktop and touch tablet (tested on iPad). Updated Chrome, Safari, Edge.

Resonance is in Open Beta. Rules and AI are stable; visuals are still being polished. Report bugs, balance issues, or difficulty reading the board — every piece of feedback helps before the final release.
